Bye Bye Big Water...

This morning we had to walk across the street and wave a teary goodbye to the ocean... or "Big Water" as Meron has come to affectionately call it.

It was a peaceful calm view from the steps and it reminded us how much God loves us - He gave us this awesome spot to come refresh our minds, bodies and souls - not to mention He stops the powerful waves at the shoreline...

Meron said "Bye Bye" to pretty much everything - the sand, the birds, the water, the chairs, the umbrellas. We were all pretty sad to leave - and some of us felt comfortable showing it a bit more than others!

Don't worry Meron - we will be back next year for sure - we'd love company - any takers?

Works of Art

I never cease to be amazed when I stop and stare at the amazing art work of God.

Oh yeah... His sunsets are pretty impressive too!

Meron decided to bust out the "Learn to Swim" bathing suit today. And even though she looked like a member of the APD S.W.A.T. team - we think it was a great find for us.

It kept her cute little head (and curls) above water - even against her adventurous will at times! She couldn't get enough of the water today and definitely proved that there is some percentage of "fish" in her lineage somewhere...

Big Water

Meron FINALLY got to meet the ocean in person. And just as expected... she loved it! She called it "Big Water" and is quick to point out when asked that "God made it!"

What an undeserved blessing it was to watch this little girl - whose life has come so far from where it was almost 2 years ago - stare in awe and wonder at one of God's greatest creations.

We are unmeasurably rich.

Giddy Giggly Girl

So what did we get after 6 butt-cramping hours in the car? Tears? Screaming? Whining? Meltdowns?

Nope. Maniacal giggling! That's what! The girl travels better than we do I think!

Run Like Mommy

Meron knows we run. Heck - she rolls along with us most of the time. The other day she decided she wanted to put on Mommy's clothes and lead a stretching session.

Man - I can not wait until she's running with us - totally looking forward to that day!

Big Much!

The other day Meron and I were driving down to GA Tech to see mommy. The whole way down Meron was saying "LaLu Mommy!" and I just kept asking her "How much do you love mommy?"

I wanted her to answer me so I just kept asking and asking and asking. Finally - she threw her hands up and spread them out wide and said "Big Much!"

My heart almost popped.

Check out the pose and the video below - thanks Meron for warming my soul yet again!

God's Covenant With Us

And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." - Genesis 9:12-16
I thought of this promise from God this week. 4 days in to some torrential downpours here in Atlanta - it seemed like He might be reconsidering that deal of His. But that Sunday - I dropped Laura off for a run in the rain and as Meron and I drove around - there it was. A giant rainbow - one of the biggest I have ever seen - just hanging out in the sky.

I am thankful for God's promises to us - and the undeserved blessings He continues to give us. Especially this week.

Those pictures below were taken about 250 yards from our house. An elementary school is completely under water. And yet our home wasn't even touched.

Sure - Meron's school was cancelled - roads were closed everywhere. It took Laura 3 hours to get home from work yesterday. We had to revamp our work schedules and rearrange our days to manage our girl. And it's easy to get frustrated.

But then we walked down the street as a family this afternoon and I realized how rich, rich, rich we are. I am so rich. And in the midst of the storm - I still have these two. And we all have God. What more could we want, really?

Global Babies

Meron received a surprise gift this weekend from some folks who have been following along as she grows up on her blog. They sent the nicest card with the kindest words written inside. It was a pleasant surprise and we just wanted to say "Thank You So Much!!" We hope Meron can meet you guys some day too!

Meron loved it - and so did we!

Ethiopian Princess

Meron was invited to a princess themed party today where they were told to dress as their favorite princess. Meron went dressed as the Ethiopian princess she is!.

And I think she rocked the look pretty darn well!

Two and a half years ago I followed God to Africa (or "A-cic-a!" as Meron calls it) on my first mission trip. It was an incredible experience of amazing natural beauty, incredible animals and even more incredible kids and people.

One of the people we worked with there was Kennedy - a young guy who was working his way through Seminary. He was about our age and he had a really cool family and a great love for God and kids. He was a ton of fun to be around and his spirit and smile were contagious.

At the time I remember telling myself "Man Tymm - soak this in - it's Africa! You'll likely never be back!" I am glad God is in control of things and not me...

What a privilege it was on Thursday to stand in our front yard and watch Kennedy - on his first trip to America - hug Meron and scream "A-cic-a!" with her! It was a really cool moment and one I am blessed to be part of...

Meron summed it up perfectly as he was getting ready to leave - "Lalu Kennedy...," she said. That's right - we love you Kennedy!

Cookie, Cookie, Cookie

Mommy and Meron spent some time in the kitchen last night making one of Meron (and daddy's) favorite treats - chocolate chip cookies!

Meron had a blast helping out her mommy (she loves to do WHATEVER mommy is doing) and it paid off too - in the form of a delicious cookie treat later. Way to go Meron - let me know when you're taking requests!

A New Tradition

You can probably guess from the last couple posts that we hit an apple orchard this past weekend. What a blast! Most of the crew was there (we were missing a few regulars!) and everybody had a great time.

Apples, cows, baby goats, sheep, ducks, wagon rides, gigantic turkey legs, dancing, apple donuts and one sleepy Meron on the way home. Yep - I think we found another tradition!
