Merry Christmas To All...

Meron kicked the day off being very... well... merry. Santa had come but she was more concerned with whether or not he brought anything for Mommy.

While daddy and Meron played with new toys - mommy whipped up a bunch of wonderful smelling muffins...

We hopped in the car as a family...

and handed them out to those who might have had to work today!

Then the snow hit and we actually had a WHITE CHRISTMAS!!! WOO HOO!!

The day was long and napless Meron was a trooper... eventually the yawns started defeating her though...

She finally stopped fighting it and gave in - she fell dead-sleep under her new Disney blanket.

THANK YOU so much to everybody who helped make our Christmas super special!!

Not A Creature Was Stirring...

Christmas Eve... can you say CRAZY TIMES? Some last minute shopping combined with running out of dog food and having to beat the clock to PetSmart made for too much time out and about with the holiday crazies!

Thank God for a peaceful evening!

We ran into some great friends at church...

Had some awesome family hang time...

And still managed to get the snacks out for all of our visitors (the reindeer are definitely some endurance athletes)...

Hope everybody had a blessed Christmas Eve...

Waffly Good Company

Between working full time, prepping to lead a mission team to Rwanda/Ethiopia, staying afloat with Brighton Their World, hitting the final stretch of our LH3 adoption, running and trying to get ready for Christmas... well - it's been kinda busy around Camp Hoffman.

And I needed a daddy daughter date.

I asked Meron where she wanted to go and she said "Waffle House." Sorry Christian Chicken - ya lost on this one!

This is what I got to sit across from at breakfast this morning. Might be one of my new favorite pics of her. She had a blast as usual as we split the All-Star breakfast.

It was cold on the way out and she said "Daddy - will you pick me up?"

I scooped her up and then she whispered this to me:

"Daddy - when sister and Brighton come home can we bring them to Waffle House?"
If she only knew how badly I want to do just that. All I could say was "Meron - that sounds like an incredible idea" as I fought off tears.

She caught me off-guard with that one this morning. I seriously love this girl's heart.

Merry CHAOS-mas!

Yesterday we had the privilege of attending Meron's school Christmas party. It was immediately clear to me why I do web development instead of bringing home the bacon as a teacher.

First off - these kids would own me. They are entirely too cute. Each and every one of them would wield their cuteness like a medieval sword and cut me down regularly.

Then there's the nuts factor. They are all nuts. So combine cuteness with nuttiness and you end up with CHAOS! (pretty sure that's a mathematical truth)

We did get to meet a bunch of Meron's cool school buddies...

And witness first hand some less-than-stellar behavior...

But then - as if on some sort of cue - things got quiet, a calmness enveloped the room and all was right in the universe as we took a picture of almost all of them.

It only lasted about 4 seconds! And we wouldn't change a thing about it!

We LOVED the time spent with our girl in her environment on her turf. Pretty sure she enjoyed us being there too.

Merry CHAOS-mas to all you cute but nutty kids!

Forehead Sticker

Big beautiful eyes... check.
Pretty smile... check.
Gorgeous princess dress... check.
Fancy necklace... check.
Weird rolled up forehead sticker... check.

Yeah - I don't get it either. But she almost always insists on sporting a forehead sticker. Weirdo.

Cookies with Granny...

Today's blog post is written by guest blogger Granny as she recalls the weekend spent with the Meronator!

Did you ever have a day that was blessed from beginning to end? I had such a day yesterday. While her Mommy and Daddy left to deliver Christmas to some families who have had a difficult year, Meron and I spent hours in the kitchen baking Christmas cookies.

In matching red aprons we swathed the kitchen table in plastic, gathered the cookie ingredients and went to work. We could have used the simple slice-and-bake variety but instead we had eggs and margarine and we mixed cookie dough to our hearts' content. Little brown hands smashed eggs on the edge of the bowl and then squeezed until the totally scrambled egg fled the crushed shell into the dry ingredients.

Those same little hands carefully used a table knife to cut chunks of margarine which she added to the cookie mix. She called the margarine "cheese" all morning long and did not care anything about learning about "margarine". We mixed and mixed and mixed, using countless utensils when Meron's spoon happened to need frequent licking.

In an attempt to make the cookies in a similar size, we decided to roll the dough into balls but our little baker quickly discovered that if she rolled the dough just a little too hard, it squished through her fingers and oh, my, she just had to lick it off!

We used the rolling pin and a kitchen glass to make a few giant cookies that she said would be perfect for her Mommy and Daddy. We baked close to 10 dozen cookies not counting the broken ones that just had to be taste tested!

After the cookies cooled, out came the red, green and white icing and enough
sprinkles to cover the state of GA. Meron called the red and green icing "paint" and the white icing "glue" but she very quickly learned that tons of sprinkles are absolutely necessary to make perfect Christmas cookies.

Colored sugar, sprinkles of various colors and shapes along with sugar snowflakes and tiny gingerbread people adorned every sugar cookie in opulent quantities while a vast amount hit the kitchen floor to the delight of the waiting pups!

We worked perhaps 4 hours and she never tired of her baking tasks and we had many discussions about who would receive a priceless box of her goodies.

After lunch and a long nap, Meron and her Mommy carefully filled each pretty little Christmas box with an assortment of her first baking.

Each box contained some decorated sugar cookies, some chocolate chip and some oatmeal raisin.

She could not wait another minute and so Mommy, Daddy, Meron and I pulled on coats, scarves and gloves and gathered boxes of cookies.

We went from neighbor to neighbor as Meron spread the joy and innocence of Christmas. She rang doorbells and handed out her boxes of cookies saying "Merry Christmas! I made you something!"

She received hugs and smiles in return and her joy was a sight to see.

As for me, Meron's love and her first Christmas cookies are a precious memory I will never forget. Merry Christmas, sweet girl.

Love, Granny

Triple Trouble Lineup

At a recent get together, Meron managed to place herself right where she wanted to be - smack dab in the middle of her two buddies from across the street, Cooper and Reece.

Let to their own accord - it would definitely be Triple Trouble!

Age of Innocence

I don't want it to end. Is that so wrong? I don't want Meron's current age of innocence to end just yet. Actually - I don't want it to end ever.

If it was up to me I'd keep her blindfolded to all of the YUCK that the world has to offer. Things like crime, and death and senseless evil and... the orphan crisis. The totally senseless orphan crisis.

Last night after Laura prayed with her, Meron looked her straight in the eyes and said:

"Mommy, when is Brighton coming home?"
Laura had nothing. No explanation. No words, just tears falling on her. How does she explain the orphan crisis to our 3 year old...the orphan crisis that took her brother away.

All she could say was that Brighton is with Jesus. But Meron insisted,
"Mommy, but when is he coming home? I want him here."
All Laura could say is that she does too. She wants Brighton here. She wants to hold our son. She wants to rock him and sing to him and soothe him. She wants him here.

Then Laura asked if she wanted to pray again and she did... and no lie, this is what Meron said:
"God, please be with Mommy and Granny when they go to my sister. And be with all the kids who need daddies."
So simple, yet so many don't get it.

Yeah - if it was up to me - I'd keep her sweet, precious, innocent self exactly like this picture forever. Her special heart and unassuming godliness moves me every single time.

What could possibly be keeping these two this focused?

Uh... hello? Caillou and Shutterfly, silly.

In everything she does - she wants to do it like her mommy.

Granny Chit Chat

Meron sat like this forever the other night and just chatted away with her Granny. She was cracking me up - she was way into her conversation telling her about riding Mister Michael's horse and brushing it...

Then - out of nowhere she said:

"You can talk to my mom now."
And handed the phone to Laura! (which, by the way, drives Laura batty - when she calls her "mom" instead of "mommy" - Laura says shes not ready for that yet...)

Someone is growing up...

Happy Birthday Dear Jesus...

Meron and her friends had a little birthday party for Jesus today!

It was a blast...

She broke bread with her buddies...

Then they sang "Happy Birthday" to Jesus (complete with candle)...

Before digging in to the Baby Jesus cupcakes!

They played a wicked fun game of Pin The Tail On Mary's Donkey...

Which was very...

...very fun to watch!

Meron was PUMPED UP and could barely contain her excitement! Jesus is that worthy of celebration - right Meron!?

We even had a little snow show up to top it all off.

We are so blessed to have good friends who are committed to making sure their kids know Jesus and celebrate Him while at the same time having a blast with this time of year.

Thanks guys for another wonderful Jesus birthday!
