I Catch You Daddy

I learn so much from Meron. My life is better cuz she's in it and I am a better person because she's around me. The lessons I learn from her are just priceless...

This weekend's lesson: CONFIDENCE.

I have always struggled with confidence. Never felt particularly special or good at anything. But not Meron! No way! She carries herself with such confidence and poise. I love it.

Case in point: We were at the park just having regular old park fun. Meron LOVES her some slides. Probably cuz we sent her sailing down them at a crazy young age (sounds wacky to write that - but hey - we did - and she liked it!). She knows Mommy or Daddy will always be down there to catch her if she needs us.

So she sees me at the top and yells out:

"I catch you daddy! Come on... I catch you!"
And sure enough - she did! So what I am like 5x her size - she stepped right up, no worries, fully trusting her abilities. And when I slid into her arms at the bottom she said:
"I got you daddy. I got you."
If you only knew how true that statement is Meron...

Girl's Night

Mommy's good friend and team mate from her trip to Africa came over tonight to hang out and have dinner. Daddy split to go run so it was just the girls!

Meron loves her some Heather and she had a field day! Thanks Heather for your friendship and your loving heart for Africa!

In Your Son's Name...

Tonight while we were driving home from the season opening meeting of our community group, Meron said:

"Hey guys... bow your heads, I gonna say a prayer."
I explained to her that I couldn't really bow my head while driving but that I would surely be listening. So mommy and Meron bowed their heads and this is what came out of the back seat:
"God. Thank you for my family... in this car. And thank you, God, that you have everybody in your heart. In your son's name we pray... Amen!"
Tears, swerve, crash... I mean not really - but geez Meron - how about a little warning before your gonna drop some prayers that make daddy's heart swell so much!

At home we always say "In Jesus' name..." so we're not sure where she picked up "In your son's name..." - probably at church. Wherever it came from - it is the sweetest thing in the world to hear.

I continue to be shaped, molded, taught and humbled by the heart inside the body of this little girl. Meron said it best... Thank you God... for my family that was in that car.

New Buddies

We finally found an excuse to get together with (and meet for the first time) a family here in Atlanta who has been SOO supportive and encouraging to us.

Gabriel's adoption was finalized last week so what better reason to hit good ole Christian Chicken for some celebrating?!

Thanks Carter and Gabriel for the smiles, the laughs and the big sister gift... But most of all for being such an encouraging, inspiring family! You guys are the coolest!

Staying Up Late

Lately we have been so focused on raising a "well-behaved" child that we seemed to have kinda lost touch with what was actually going on. Truth is this - 95% of the time Meron is an absolute angel who uses her manners, is respectful, shares, plays well with others, listens, etc...

We had been letting the few bad days override all the joy she brings us. No more I say! Tonight was one of those nights that just kinda jar ya back to reality. Meron was a precious little angel. Laura went running and Meron and I ran some errands (complete with Snow White princess outfit she insisted on wearing) - and man... she was so well behaved and sweet and loving.

It bought her the opportunity to stay up late and watch some of "A Bug's Life." She had her mommy, her PJs, her slippers and her buddies (what she calls the crazy trio of Buzz, Woody and Yellow Guy) and she was way content. I don't think she gets happier than this.

We love you Meron - and both mommy and daddy think you are doing GREAT at this thing called life! You're teaching us a LOT!

Mommy Smooch

I am telling ya - I am not sure it's even possible to love two things any more than I do these two. My life is so much better because God brought them to me.

Seriously, God - really? I know I don't deserve this - but THANK YOU!

Welcome to the World, Averie!

Our good friends Scott and Kelli added a new body to the mix this past week as they welcomed a precious baby girl into their family.

We were super excited to get over there and meet Averie. Meron was loving it...

She did some head kissing...

Some big sister practicing...

And some cheesing for the camera (what else is new?)...

Averie - it was awesome to meet you! You are one blessed little girl to have such a great mommy and daddy looking out for ya and loving ya! We look forward to watching you grow up (but not too fast...)!

Meron's Moments

"What? Me? Be bad? Misbehave? Never!"
Yeah, right! She'd love for you to think that. SO not true though...

So we've consturcted the Meron's Moments chart to help Meron get great reports on some of the common behavior stuff she freaks out on.

It's a pretty comprehensive chart that includes a partial list of Meron's behaviors that she finds challenging sometimes - and boxes for smiley faces for the days she really knocks them out the park!

Here she is scoring a smiley for her day of NO TIMEOUTS!! Woo hoo!

The chart has a few milestones where she can earn rewards and when the whole thing is smiley-ed out - she gets a SPECIAL TREAT!

Good luck Meron! Can't wait to celebrate all of your little milestones and your big special treat at the end!

Close to Impossible...

It was another steamer in GA today - so we headed back for another round of creek stomping. But this time Mommy rounded up some fellow creek stompers...

Meron had an even bigger blast than last time (if that was possible).

But ya know what we learned? It is close to impossible to take a picture of 4 buddies sitting on a rock in a creek with everybody looking at the camera...

But we tried...

And tried again...

And again...

And tried again... ALMOST got it here!

Yet another try...

And again...

And once more...

And then we gave up.

Thanks Fros for coming stomping with us!

Bill Cosby Would Be Happy

Mommy promised Meron a "special treat" tonight after dinner. She was so pumped about it - she screamed for me downstairs:

"Daddy! Come up here and see my special treat!"
As I slid into a seat beside her she proudly exclaimed:
"Look Daddy! It's chocolate pudding!"
It was definitely a hit... and somewhere Bill Cosby is smiling (and probably cashing a royalty check....)

Goofy Girls

Meron and mommy relaxing in the awesome Georgia weather. KIDDING! It was like 368 degrees and 500% humidity.

Only reason daddy isn't in this picture is because he melted in to a puddle of water on the driveway. WE WANT FALL!

Daddy Daughter Date Night

Mommy was out celebrating the soon-to-be-growing family of our good friends tonight so daddy and Meron decided it was time for a date night. It included the post office, Target (of course), Starbucks, an ambulance (no worries - they were just digging Meron and turned their lights on for her), stuffed Woody, Go Fish (kind of), cookies and just plain hanging-out fun.

We hung at Starbucks...

We turned a deck of "Go Fish" cards into a memory game...

But I think the cookies were her favorite part...

No matter what we're doing - I absolutely LOVE hanging out with my girl... (we missed mommy though).

Cheese Ball

I guess ya get what ya ask for! Tell Meron to smile and say "Cheese!" and this is what you'll see...

Is that not the cheesiest smile ever?

Ladies and Gentlemen - We Have Some Winners!

Meron was more than willing to help us fish out two winners of the two Tom Davis books that we are giving away. She loves doing this kind of stuff...

She fished around in there to be super fair... and pulled out two winners!

Denae and Karen - contact me and get me an address and we'll get those books out the door ASAP! Enjoy them - they are GREAT reads by one of our favorite authors!

Thanks everybody for visiting and for playing along - we'll find something else to give away sometime soon!
