Chip Off The Old Block

These girls will do anything to be just like their mommy!

Including rocking the same workout gear as her!

Thanks so much Granny and Aunt Connie!

And it wasn't just for looks either - right after this I took off for a run with Meron and Mebski Love... one of my favorite things to do ever!

Looking good girls!

Mini Fashionista...

"Daddy..." she yelled from her room...

Don't come in here! I wanna surprise you with this outfit I put together!"

The girl is a little fashionista - LOVES creating things to wear...

Her goals change by the minute... but for that moment - the goal was fashion designer...

Fashion designer, professional baseball player, teacher, rock star...

Whatever the goal is Meron - never stop chasing it!

Just Because...

Sometimes - because ya don't get to pick her up from school very often - ya show up with flowers in hand.

Just because.

Life of a Runner Brother

Meron had to represent solo for the Goofballs at the last race of the fall LandSharks Running Club season today since Mebbie was out sharing about Brighton.

And while we LOVE going to cheer her and Mebbie on - some of us may love it a bit more than others...

The life of a runner brother can be hard people...

"I mean... come on! THREE different race groups?"

"Oh wait... what's this down here?"

"Dirt you say? It IS dirt! And it needs to be played with.."

"Sigh. Dirt's as boring as this race..."

It was a BLAZING HOT day here and I begged Meron to pace herself out there...

Cuz she is a LOT like me - she sees a finish line - and it's SPRINT TIME BABY!

She was pretty proud of the season and looking forward to spring!

Daddy's already putting together the fall/winter workout plan!

Mebski Love was desperately missed - but I couldn't be any more proud of these two and their commitment to this.

Never stop running girls... and Z-Dogg - your time is coming!

Separated Camp

Our camp is not used to rolling separately. To have me and Meron go to New York and then Laura and Mebbie head to North Carolina is kinda unheard of for us.

We roll tight as a unit when we roll.

So we've been missing our mommy and our Mebbie. Meron - in the midst of a decision of something today (can't remember what) - said to me:

"Man.... I miss Mebbie. She usually helps me with these decisions."

But if I gotta be apart from my two girls - at least I get to do it with these two certified goofballs.

They have been insanely awesome - and I have never known a helper like Meron has proven herself to be.

And they've kept me smiling!

We got this guys. 48 more hours til Camp Unification...

Mini Mountain Maniacs

With Mommy and Mebbie away for the long weekend - it was up to me to fill a day for the other two goofballs.

We started off with an impromptu Jeep ride up a bumpy, dusty road at Mt Herman. They loved it...

But then - and I PROMISE this was not my idea - Meron says to me:

"Daddy - can we go up the incline today?"

And that is how we ended up at 5:00 PM down in Manitou like this:

Water carriers filled, snacks in hand, determination level HIGH with a goal of the bail out trail like their sister did.

And would ya believe these tenacious little buggers made it?

With just a LITTLE carrying of Z-Dogg when it got too steep for his little tiny legs to handle it... we made it to the bail out trail.

But we were losing light quicker than I liked to admit - so we scarfed some cheerios and craisins down quick and hit Barr Trail for the trek back down.

Meron has a real... and I mean REAL fear of mountain lions (wonder where she got that?!?!?) and it was starting to surface up on the way down.

I scooped up Zechie and we picked the pace up a bit...

One fall (no lingering pain) and several human "round the corner" scares later and we were down...

With the safety of the Jeep right beside them - they finally let their guard down and told me how much fun they had. Zechie even said:

"Daddy - I no scared of mountain lions. I beat up bad guys. I protect Meron from bad guys and mountain lions..."

Love it!

Guys - you have NO IDEA how proud I am of you both!

You took both physical challenges and mental ones too - stared 'em right in the face - and then beat 'em!

This night will not be soon forgotten!

Bye Bye Summer!

These guys are some serious water loving fools!

But alas... the pool and splash pad shut down over Labor Day weekend...

So here we are - a day into fall... and temperatures are still hot enough for swimming...

But yesterday we woke up to the first snowfall on Pikes Peak.

So soon enough - it'll be snowballs instead of splash pads.

And we reluctantly say "Bye Bye Summer..."

Stay strong little fish.

Summer will be back before ya know it!

Big Hearted Advocate

This girl right here has been busy the past few nights working on her "speech" as she calls it...

See - Friday she hops on a plane with Laura to fly to North Carolina where they've been invited to talk a little bit about Ethiopia, Brighton Their World and why we do what we do as a family...

She couldn't be more pumped and I couldn't be more pumped for her.

I really can't think of anybody better for the job - she has a heart full of love and compassion for people in general - and a STRONG love for Ethiopia.

Girls... go share your hearts and shine a light on Him while doing it!

We'll miss ya here but we're super proud of both of you!

Counting My Blessings...

Sometimes I try to hang around the house in the morning to see the goofballs before they head to school...

This morning - they didn't know I was still here - and I came out and peeked at them in the kitchen. All just sitting together eating breakfast...

And I was struck.

Struck by how stinking blessed I am.

Meron was first to see me... "DADDY!" she screamed... "I didn't even know you were here!"

Then there was a chorus of "Daddys!" being sung out.

And I couldn't help think about how precious they are and how blessed I am.

Each one of them... different in their own way.

Ya got Meron... LOUD. OUTGOING. IN CHARGE. LOVING.

Then there's Middle Mebski Love.

QUIET. COMPASSIONATE. TENDERHEARTED. LOVING.

And of course we got Z-Dogg.

MANIACAL. CRAZY. FUNNY. LOVING.

Each of them incredibly unique...

But at the same time part of a bigger good that is the best thing that has ever happened around here.

Goofballs... thank you so much for who you are and the blessings you bring us.

Stay goofy. Stay crazy. Stay together. Stay LOVING.

Wherever She Falls...

This girl can crash out ANYWHERE and at ANY TIME.

I mean for real... wherever she lays her head is her bed.

A couple nights ago we sent her in to our room to do her nightly reading for school...

And that's how we found her!

I love that she is that comfortable with life to allow herself to just give in to sleep like that!

Snooze a round for daddy girl...!

Byooteefol

Last night, Mebbie - with a HUGE smile on her face - told me she had made mommy a note and hid it in her closet for mommy to find...

I had no idea what it was and honestly I had kinda forgotten about it today... until Laura found it and posted it on Facebook.

She was in tears from the beauty of it. The note said:

"Mommy - you work so hard for our family. You make me smile. I love you so much. You are nice. You are beautiful.

Love, Mebbie"
That's our Mebbie girl. All heart. All love for those in her family...

Mebbie - you have no idea what it means to daddy to see you love mommy the way you do.

Never stop being who He made you to be Mebbie - He made a champion out of you!

Star Light, Star Bright...

Tonight after dinner - we all rushed out to take a peek at that crazy bright sliver of a Moon that was hanging out in the clear Colorado sky...

It was SO BRIGHT!

One day - I'll learn how to take photos at night...

But for now I'll settle for watching the goofballs stare at the stars and get super excited about them!

Meron said: "Can we come out here every night and do this?"

I don't see why not girl... I loved it too!

And we even spotted a shooting star... oh, my bad - that was just Z-Dogg being Z-Dogg!

Never stop appreciating His work guys... keep the awe and wonder!

Candid

If I was a good photographer who knew what I was doing...

I think I would focus on taking candid shots of people...

I love the feeling ya get in the picture when they don't know I'm snapping their pics!

Don't get me wrong - I love their staged and goofy smile pictures too...

But something about these just draws me in quickly...

Keep looking away guys... keep looking away! (just not all the time!)
