Mission Minded Mommy

Last night - we dropped this mission minded mommy off at the Denver Airport to kick off her trip to Ethiopia to do some work at the school

It was past midnight before I had these guys tucked back in...

And through their sleepy little heads - they mumbled:

"We miss mommy already..."
We all did.

Cuz mommy is the glue that holds this camp together!

But we managed to get through DAY ONE okay (I think).

There were friends who took the kids for a while so I could go to some meetings for work... THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Then there was that trip to the pool before the storms rolled in...

"No daddy, it's NOT cold!"

I dunno Meron - your sister may have some different input!

Or ask this guy here - who said to me:
"Uh... no daddy. I stay with YOU. That pool way TOO cold!"
I feel ya Z-Dogg, I feel ya!

So after some fun hanging out tonight - they're all sleeping and recharging to do it all again tomorrow!

Day one is in the books - let's see what Day Two brings!

P.S. - Laura and team HAVE landed and made it through customs just fine! Let the real work begin! Big thanks to everybody who has been praying for them

Their brother may be able to rock an undersized onesie like it's nobody's business...

But these ladies here got a little something too.. and it's called CUTE!

Keep bringing that fine mixture of cute, sass, style and awesomeness, girls!

Stylin' and Profilin'

I dunno many people who could make this get up look good at all... let alone look as good as Z-Dogg made it!

I mean... come on!

Dude is rocking a skin tight, all black too small onesie...

Coated with some dog hair.

Dude knows it too.

He knows he's cool.

Z-Dogg... keep doing you little man!

Three Lovely Ladies and a Bright Light

These three lovely ladies went to a mother-daughter tea the other day!

Looking lovely as ever, ladies!

Poor Mebbie's sensitive eyes could barely handle the sun though!

And Meron could barely handle it all!

Squinting in the sun or not...

School's Out!!

These two beautiful young ladies wrapped up the first and second grade today!

What, what, what?!?!?!

I can't believe how fast the school year flew by...

It only seemed fitting to welcome them home like this:

Super proud of you girls!

Keep up the amazing work and let's have a blast this summer!

My Big Hair Is Good!

I kid you not... about 2.7 seconds after this picture was taken - I had to reach out and grab him because THE WIND GOT A HOLD OF HIM AND ALMOST BLEW HIM AWAY!

That head of hair is like a sail out there!

Big awesome hair problems in effect.

The other day I called home and somehow Z-Dogg ended up on the phone. He randomly said to me:

"Daddy... Daddy, you hear me?

My big hair is good, daddy!"
Yes it is, Z-Dogg.

Furry Protector

Somebody was feeling a little under the weather - scratchy throat and a headache...

Likely allergies - but her little furry friend wasn't risking it.

She stayed right there with her the whole night.

Cider - the skittish guardian - to the rescue... all is good!

Capture the Face

I captured a few faces today.

It was gorgeous here today and we spent a good chunk of it outside - so I roamed around capturing faces!

That girl up there tried to be elusive - but ya can't escape me!

And then there was this dude... I think I shocked him with the long lens!

And then my big girl... not feeling super great today but still shining!

And finally - this last one here...

Man... I married WAY up!

Alright people... watch ya face... I might try to capture it.

5 On A Board...

We love having 'em over.

And the goofballs love "Meron-ating" them too!

From meron-orchestrated crafts, to singing, to home run derby in the circle to all 5 of them sitting on a skateboard and trying to ride it together (see above)... this crew had a BLAST tonight!

Thanks guys for coming over and being part of our circus for the night!

I Wish You Didn't Say Things...

We let 'em spew without thinking about what we're even saying - thinking we can just remove their power later with a simple "I didn't mean that..."

We're so reckless with them.

NF has a new album out with a song on it called "Wish You Wouldn't" and boy did the lyrics get me thinking...

"I wish you didn't say things... I wish you didn't say things...
That you don't mean, that you don't mean"
I mean seriously - can we stop doing that?

Not too long ago over on my RhymeBlog - I wrote about this very thing...

Words… They’re important and I know how much they matter,
So I pick ’em with precision – they’re not just pointless chatter;

They’re the foundation of a story, capturing moments in time,
They’re a peek inside our mind, the building blocks of a rhyme;

You can load ’em like a gun, cock ’em and take aim,
Knowing they can hurt and kill, destroy and maim;

Or you can carefully choose ’em, pray before ya use ’em,
Be careful how ya share ’em and try not to abuse ’em;

You can write ’em for forever or speak ’em for a moment,
Use ’em for rebuking or choose ’em for atonement;

You can place them out in public or wrap them in disguise,
Let them bring the truth or deceive people with lies;

You can use really big ones so people think you’re smart,
Or weave ’em all together revealing what’s in your heart;

You can choose to say “I’m sorry!” or use them to forgive,
You can be careless with ’em or watch what comes off your lips;

You can name and proclaim, or use ’em to bring Him glory,
Giving voice to the life that God made with your story;

You can use ’em to blame or add fire to the flames,
Or get ’em under control and tame ’em just like James;

But no matter how ya use ’em – or who ya think might have heard,
Be respectful of the power that is contained inside our words…

I'm not saying I'm perfect with words - no way - I have been on the receiving end of some super hateful words from those you'd think would never say 'em and I know I have delivered my share of them as well.

But I've grown from it.

Ask my crew here... I am super careful with the words I choose to use these days.

The fewer the better - and that's coming from a wordsmith who LOVES words.

I've tried to use my own experiences to help the goofballs learn that words can be weapons - and we have to be super responsible with them.

I see these guys being super careful with how they choose their words here... not every time... sometimes emotions win... but they are acknowledging the power of them and owning theirs when they use them wrong.

They're doing that at 8 and 7 years old. Even 4 years old.

That's more than I see some grown folks doing.

I'm proud of 'em for it.

James had some super strong words to say about that little thing called our "tongue."
"Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell."
[James 3:5-6]

He wasn't playing, was he?

So... round these parts we're gonna be working on just that - thinking before we speak - NOT saying things we don't mean - and realizing the power our words do have and how hard it is to reverse them after we say them.

How 'bout we ALL try to tame our tongues... no?

My People

Forgive the sketchy phone picture... but I love this photo of my little people.

I am forever grateful for the adoption process because God used it to really reveal to me how He sees His people.

It's not a bloodline or a lineage thing.

It's a love thing.

God adopts us in and loves the heck outta us.

Last weekend I went cross country to see my nephew graduate high school. I love that dude. Not because blood tells me to - because he's lovable!

While there - i got to see my sisters and their families - my nieces and nephews...

At the same time - Granny had flown cross country to see the goofballs and Laura - and they all went bowling...

Yes... I am super thankful for what adoption has taught me.

I don't love my kids - my family - because of some silly blood connection.

I love them because of who they are in Him - the godly image they try to live every day - the way they talk to others, the way they love others, the way the behave and act towards others... that fruit that I see? That's so easy to love...

No... I don't love them because I have to. I love them because I want to.

Our Resident Ar-Teest!

Give this girl a crayon, a marker, a pencil and some paper... and WATCH OUT!

She LOVES to draw and color - just ask my cubicle at work (it's totally covered)!

Oh... and that smile? That's a work of art in itself!

Stay creative Mebbie - and stay smiling!

Keep shining, guys!

A Mother Like No Other

It all started right here I think.

This image of Laura praying at the grave of our son... it's forever etched in my mind.

This spot right here.

A milestone spot really... one that could have (and truthfully would have) marked THE END for a lot of people and nobody would have questioned them otherwise.

But not for Laura.

Nope... this was just the beginning. This just solidified what God had put in her - she was built to be a mom.

And man has she shown it.

I am moved beyond words at the thankfulness I feel that our kids are being raised under this kind of Godly, unconditional love that I simply didn't know could exist.

She has probably impacted me more than our goofballs with the motherly love she shows.

Laura... on this day and every day - I am honored to be by your side and grateful for the motherly heart that God built you with.

Your family loves you, Mommy!

In My Lifetime, Volume 1

In keeping with her serious, dapper demeanor...

Mebbie channeled her inner Hova!

And she channeled it WELL!

Don't know this album? Man... get with the program!

Here's Jay's cover...

And here is M to the E-B, S to the K-I...

Nailed it girl!

"Y'all want to know how I flow just seek and you find,
I'm like a brain in the voice box, I speak my mind..."

Bump - Set - Spike

I am absolutely loving watching this girl play some volleyball...

And she is loving playing!

She never says this - but she was so pumped about her new ball and knee pads that she said, "Daddy... take my picture!"

Girl - you only gotta ask that once!

Stay at it Meron and remember the number one rule of volleyball...
