Because Jeffrey Can

Okay guys... we are sitting here so humbled tonight.

Just crazy humbled.

We'll tell ya why in a minute - but first - let me tell you about our superhero friends.

That's Jess, Jeffrey and Jordan up there.

They are MACHINES.

A sudden cardiac arrest at 22 months left Jeffrey wheelchair bound and nonverbal.

You won't be sorry!

Because see - Jeffrey may be nonverbal - but his smile says way more than any amount of words ever could!

And he may be wheelchair bound but this little IRON MAN has covered more ground than most anybody I know!

Be it by boat...

Or by bike... this little dude gets around!

I mean... for the love of Pete... the dude is a Ragnar finisher!!

What, what, WHAT??

Jeffrey and his family have been fierce supporters of Brighton Their World for as long as we can remember.

They clearly have so much going on that they could be pouring into of their own - and yet they continue to stand by us through every challenge BTW has ever had - with prayer, financial support and love.

And then today... well - here they go again!

Their family was chosen to be the spotlght of a month-long campaign called "Because I Can!"

This organization partners with people who have an attitude in life of "Because I Can" no matter what challenges they face. And they chose Jeffrey - a mighty fine and appropriate choice if you ask me!

But it doesn't stop there!

This organization then sells a piece of clothing in honor of Jeffrey. In this case - a red hoodie as a nod to his Iron Man hero with the "Because I Can" logo on it.

And here's where the tears of humility start falling for us and we can't make 'em stop...

The proceeds from the sales of the hoodie are going to go to.... Brighton Their World.

They could have chosen any charity they wanted... and they chose BTW.

As I type this - my eyes are watering and I am blaming my allergies - that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

So here's the deal - do you really need to be convinced to go buy a new Red Hooded Sweatshirt?

Let's buy 'em out! I know we'll be rocking 'em!

Guys... you are truly a beautiful picture of God's handiwork!

The way you live your lives - man it honors and glorifies HIM so well!

"Thank you" doesn't seem like enough - but know we are grateful to the core for who you are and how you love us.

And Jeffrey - you don't have to convince us buddy...

We KNOW you can!

Rub Some Dirt On It

"Hey - can you get home in time to get Mebbie and Zechie - I am taking Meron to the emergency room..."

That's what the chat window said as Laura explained the pediatrician couldn't see her today and with her right side hurting for 48 hours - they wanted to make sure the 'ole appendix wasn't about to give out on her...

So off they went.

I am such a "rub some dirt on it and walk it off..." kind of guy - but I am glad they went. Peace of mind was good for us and for Meron...

Poor Mebbie was almost in tears when I picked her up from track practice... she was worried about her sister.

We all were.

I'm super dooper glad this gorgeous girl of mine is in bed right now sleeping off her strained muscle that she probably picked up on the first day of practice.

I'm thankful for medical technology that peeked in there and said "Nope - appendix is fine!"

A few pain meds and some rest - and she's gonna be just fine!

Ya lived to run another day, girl!

Thankful for muscle strains!

Wheelz of Steel

One of these days I'm gonna get this little homie his own set of ones and twos and get him mastering the art!

I mean seriously... you know we need someone to come along and step into the shoes of a Jazzy Jeff or a Cut Creator or DJ Pooh, right?

We need the next generation's Mix Master Mike or Hurricane or Jam Master Jay.

We need a new Akshun Love, Yella, Qbert or Diplo!

We need him to shadow a Mister Cee, Marley Marl, Pete Rock or Ali Shaheed Muhammad

Who's gonna replace DJ Clue, Premier, Red Alert or Funkmaster Flex?

Worst case scenario - he and I will cut an album together... and it will be DOPE!

Eh yo Z... rock the beat with your hands!

Prayer Rocks

We've started a little something new 'round Camp Hoffman these days.

As a reminder to set our hearts and minds and eyes on Him in prayer - we've started painting "Prayer Rocks" - rocks designed to remind ourselves of things we need and want to be praying about!

For example... the Church!

We most definitely need to be praying for that!

And then there's rocks for some of our friends who are out there putting in Kingdom work!

Of course there's a little organization called Brighton Their World that is near and dear to our hearts!

And a certain country that we love with all we got!

We're looking forward to seeing how the Holy Spirit moves in this and what rocks we end up dropping around this place to keep us on our prayer toes!

Prayer... it matters!

Strong Looks Good on Her!

I pity the fool who gets on the wrong side of the Meronator!

This girl has been working out with us at the YMCA pretty regularly for a while now and she is getting STRONG!

I love, love, ,love exercising with her and watching her see the results of working hard and taking care of her body!

And she is seriously - all muscle!

God made you to be strong Meron - keep doing what you're doing!

Strong looks BEAUTIFUL on you, girl!

Give the Girl a Field...

Man... give this girl a wide open field and it doesn't matter if she is in running shoes or flip flops... she is gonna be GONE!

She is our "running whenever I can" and standing up for those who need it girl (just look at her shirt!)

Mebbie - I love that running brings you smiles and as much joy as it does me!

Never stop moving!

Run long, stand strong and speak loud, girl!

Three Thousand and Five Hundred

Today marks the 3,500th blog post I've slapped up here on the ole blog...

What, what, what?

Honestly - I don't even know if anybody even checks this out anymore...

But ya know what? I recently heard Seth Godin speak and he said "I write my blog for myself!"

And that resonated so loudly with me because... this here thing started for me and continues to be my favorite place to record the madness of our crew!

And 1,049,206 page views later - this is still really for me!

Shoot - I myself might be 1,049,203 of those page views!

I absolutely LOVE trying to chase down the crazy that Camp Hoffman brings me!

I mean... come on! She is pretending to poop out my cardboard heart, people!

Where else would ya get that?

Where else would I record this girl growing up into an amazing young lady?

Or capture this one jumping for joy?

Or record this little leaper as he's growing up at the speed of light?

Look - not a single soul could come check this site out and ya know what?

I'd keep writing!

Maybe one day I'll throw in the towel - but for now - we write on!

Here's to 3,500 more!

Fire It Up!

Man... we live in a pretty cool spot when like 15 steps from our front porch there is a summer concert series wrapping up tonight and a giant balloon is there glowing in the field for fun!

It's hard to stay away from it when it's just RIGHT THERE!

And why stay away when they're giving out free t-shirts and dancing and having fun?

We love this series and look forward to it all summer long!

Tonight it even got a little chilly out there and kinda previewed Fall for us!

We're thankful for such a cool place to live where free fun is literally right at the end of our driveway!

Good times in the 'hood!

I Can Do It, Daddy!

"I can do it, Daddy!" she said.

"I can get up there all by myself!"

This girl is nothing if not confident!

The joy she finds in the process...

keeps us all smiling!

And I'll tell you this much...

she works HARD for the things she believes in!

Never back down baby girl... never back down!

These Two Right Here...

These two beautiful ladies right here... I doubt they'll ever fully understand how much of my heart they own.

One of them is pre-teening so hard she is flipping from angsty, angry, moody, melodramatic scary girl to loving, caring, smiling, hugging daughter of God in like 3 seconds flat...

And the other one is loving her right through it with hugs and kisses and visits to school for lunch and stuff.

I love how they love each other - even when loving each other isn't what they feel like they wanna do!

Girls - you bring joy to my soul on a daily basis!

Keep smiling, hugging and loving!

Once upon a time there was light in my life...

"Now there's only love in the dark,
Nothing I can say... A total eclipse of the heart
Turnaround bright eyes, every now and then I fall apart..."
Loved having this trio of goofballs come to work today for lunch and to watch the eclipse together!

So cool watching the light fade a little and the temperatures drop... and standing in awe of God in the whole process - who has created an AMAZING environment where a flaming ball of fire sits just far enough away to not burn us up but provides enough light to help us sustain life...

It's pretty stinking awesome!

Next time we may hunt for totality!

Turnaround bright eyes...

Yes. It Does Suck.

Don't let your silence be the loudest thing that is heard.

'Nuff Said...
