Candy Redeemed!

Looks who's back!

Troy Polamalu made his faithful Halloween return - partnered up with a bride and Captain America!

in an attempt to make sure the wetaher didn't get in the way of our fun - mommmy set up a trip to a halloween party at the YMCA.

But it was a total flop!

Candy distribution stinginess was at an all time high...

And the crowd was so big - I'm pretty sure our ticket for the "Haunted Boat Ride" would have put us in the boat around Thanksgiving or Christmas!

We had some bummed out goofballs!

But thanks to our trusty friends at Target... all was redeemed!

And - now it looks like weather will be cool so - DOUBLE SCORE! - more candy tonight!

Happy Halloween people!

Loving It...

Man... I am loving this inaugural season of Junior Olympics Cross Country for Mebbie!

The early mornings spent with her - watching her really lean into something she finds enjoyable - and so many learning and growing experiences.

Like medals, ribbons and placing.

We talked about "participation" awards versus effort awards - like getting a ribbon because you put in hard work at practice that translated to a good showing at the meet.

Thankful for an opportunity to learn that lesson as it seems like every thing we do these days reduces accomplishments to just "showing up."

And that's why this 4th place medal meant something to her!

She worked hard - practiced hard - focused - and placed!

Afterwards - as she ate a hard boiled egg and settled in to sleep on the way back to Colorado Springs - she said:

"These are the things I love in life right now - eat, sleep, run... and do it again!"
Great attitude, girl!

Super proud of her and how she's handling the increased practices, the early mornings and the team work.

Way to go Mebbie!

Brotherly Love

This little dude right here... ALL he wanted to do was be a part of his big sister's birthday bash.

And given their history of going at each other pretty intensely (cuz they're basically the exact same person in different bodies) - I didn't think it was gonna happen!

Meron had even previously said:

"No way. All we do is argue and I don't wanna argue while dancing... so NO WAY!"
And truthfully - the girl had a point!

But in a rare moment of what can only be deemed WORLD PEACE - Meron showed so much love to him by allow him to hang out with her and her friends through the dance party and even showed a fleeting sign of [GASP!] - LOVE - for her brother!

Truth is - these two love each other to death and don't even realize it!

Glad we captured a picture to prove it!

Way to be an awesome big sister, Meron!!

Famous Last Words

"I'm not sleepy, Daddy!" he said...

And not just said - but INSISTED!

And then 5 minutes later - I found him like this:

Doing his very best impression of "Not Sleepy" as he slept HEAVILY on the couch!

Sure, Zechie... sure. You're "not sleepy!"

Famous last words, buddy!

Paparazzi Booth

Meron has requested a "photo booth" for her upcoming big double digit birthday bash...

So of course we had to try it out!

I mean - let's be honest - these girls' lives are walking photo booths 'round this place!

But they still made it look GOOD!

Can't wait to try it out with all her friends!

Say "CHEESE!"

You Stop It! Right Now!

This girl right here... she is growing up WAY TOO FAST!!

I love watching her grow, learn, experience and become the young lady that God built her to be!

At the same time... i HATE it!

I don't ever wanna lose my little Meronator, my May-May, my daddy's girl...

Time... please stop - if even for a second!

Almost a decade old Meron!!

He Knew What He Was Doing

Dear Brighton ~

I thought about you all day today. It's crazy little dude - so many of my friends have a birthday today - and so do you!

I spent a lot of time wishing people "Happy Birthday" but the whole time I was thinking about you.

I think about you a lot.

Like... I wonder what you'd be like, what you'd like... would you be into sports? Drawing? Both? What kind of music would you like and would you prefer cartoons like your little brother Zechie or would you like movies with real people like your sister Meron?

Would you be a deep thinking, gentle soul like your sister Mebbie? What would you think of me and mommy?

Where would you have wanted to go to eat tonight for your birthday dinner - and what kind of gifts would we have got for you?

I think about you a lot, Brighton.

And sometimes I wrestle with God about all of this. Like... why did He have to bring you home so early?

But even in that wrestling - we have a LOVING and CARING Father - I know you know this first hand - but He has whispered to me over and over and over and over again:

"I knew what I was doing..."

And ya know what Brighton? I fully believe Him.

And while we really really wish we would have held you and hugged you and loved on you - and your little brother often gets teary and says "I miss Brighton..." - while all of that happens - we KNOW God is sovereign and His plans are better than ours!

Your 76 days have made such a huge impact, B.

I mean I know you have a better view of it all - but check this out...

We started a school in your name!

And it is doing so well! So many kids saying how much they love "Brighton Academy..."

It's amazing, little man!

I don't know what the future holds for us or for the school or for a million other things - but I do know this:

The last ten years have been so full of Jesus and the work He has done through your little life has been AMAZING to be near.

I know I speak for your mommy too when I say how badly we wish we could hug you on your "double digit" birthday...

But we find peace in knowing that you are fully in a holy embrace with our Savior that our hugs can't nearly compete with!

Every single day, Brighton. That's how often we think of you.

EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, Brighton!

Colors... Colors....

Grabbed the camera and the Z-Dogg and sprinted outside tonight to try and capture the utterly gorgeous sunset that was happening...

A few things weren't in my favor though.

  • Wrong lens on the body
  • Auto settings didn't do well at dusk
  • I kinda suck as a photographer
Boo.

Cuz God was busy painting a GORGEOUS sky tonight!

I did manage to capture this cool kitty before we went back in though!

Another one of God's awesome creations!

Stay cool Z-Dogg... STAY COOL!

It Takes Two

Man... it's really not fair how much goofy fun I get to have with this crew!

A while back we did a little online series where I "covered" Classic Hip Hop album covers by putting my goofball crew on them.

It all started here and here's one more cuz I LOVED it...

They were AWESOME and we had a BLAST!

And lately - these guys have been on me to do some more...

Tonight we finally found some time to knock one out - so we dug back in the crates to see what we may have missed the first time around!

This round's first one... Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock!

TRUE CLASSIC!

And these two nailed it!

Absolutely love having goofy fun with these guys!

It takes two to make it outta sight...

Cold and Windy Support!

Even though she's in the third grade - Mebbie had a cool opportunity to go run as an unattached athlete in the open division of the Colorado Middle School Cross Country State Championships!

And this crazy crew got up early and made the 70 mile trek to come along and support her!

It was a CRAZY windy day - which made the 40 degrees feel even colder.

It was windy enough to almost topple some port-a-potties (EWWWWWW!)!

But Mebbie stuck it out!

And with super strong headwinds, a chilly temperature and even a turned ankle on a rock - she did GREAT! And beyond that - what an excellent opportunity to experience a big meet with tons of runners! Daddy was a bit jealous - I wanted to run in the unattached open division too!

At this camp - we do our best to all support everything everybody has going on.

With crazy scheduling - we can't always do it - but today we all happened to be able to be there (Z-Dogg is missing from the pic cuz he dove in the van to stay warm!)...

Your family loves watching ya run girl!

We got your back, Mebbie!

Fall Break Favorites

My absolute favorite crew of goofballs was on fall break this week!

Nothing major planned... hanging out, exercising at the Y, picnics in the park and just being together.

Some of the best times together are totally unplanned and unscripted.

Love hanging out with these guys!

Stay awesome, goofballs!

Scarred by Fear

This girl right here LOVES to sing.

I mean... she LOVES it!

And she's pretty good at it too and is about to start taking singing/voice lessons!

But outside of singing - she also works hard at writing her own songs.

It's precious to watch her work so hard on them...

Tonight she invited us downstairs for a "performance" - one of her original songs and a cover of another.

She busted out her pink guitar, tapping out a beat while strumming it - she sang us her song.

It was short - but full of emotion!

I asked her to sing it again... and she shyly did it again for me.

Looking at her propped up lyric sheet - I asked her to sing it one more time for me...

"there's something in my soul,
that can make me go Oooo wooo;

Oowwooo...

It's in my bones, it's in my eyes,
it's everything in my life;

It's called FEAR, it's called PAIN;
that's the life and that's the name;

That's the life that you have been given
and now it goes Oooo wooo;

Oowwooo..."
I was just sitting there... staring at her.

She looked at me... knowingly yet shyly and said:

"Wait daddy - it's not about me..."

I looked at her and said, "It's not?"

She said, "No - it's just a song I wrote with a theme about FEAR and the SCARS it can leave in people..."

Themes.

Fear.

Scars in people.

I just looked at this girl and smiled.

I told her what a gift she was exercising - a gift to see and feel the emotions that other people might be experiencing.

I said, "Keep honing that... keep writing, keep singing, keep practicing the talents HE has given you!"

She just smiled.

A really big smile.

There's something satisfying, special and holy about flexing the talent muscles He has put in us.

I absolutely love seeing them be discovered and watching them come to life.

SING Meron - He made you for it!

As Zany As They Come

Man... there are like a trillion reasons why i married this girl right here... far too many to list here for sure.

But her zaniness is HIGH on the list!

She keeps me in stitches...

She actually GETS me...

And she compliments my side of crazy just perfectly!

Her wacko wackiness is in the top 5 reasons of why I fall in love with her anew every day!

Stay zany Laura... it's HOT!

She TRIED to Make Me Cry!

The goofballs had their "student led" parent-teacher conferences this week.

It was pretty cool - they got to be in charge and lead us through a presentation of their strengths and also their opportunities for growth.

Today was Meron's and she was killing it - taking questions, answering them, just flowing with it so well.

I was stupid proud of her!

Then - when all questions were done - she says:

"I have one more thing..."

And she pulls out this letter with a picture she had gone to our blog and gotten all by herself... it was the very first picture of her, me and Laura all together.

She went on to read the letter out loud to us. It said:

"Dear Mom and Dad ~

Thank you for everything that you do for me with school and at home - like helping me with my math that I struggled with in quarter one.

I really appreciate that so much. I love you so much Mommy and Daddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love, Meron
Bite lip... hard.

Sniffle... blame it on allergies...

GEESH MERON!

You almost had me weeping right there in front of your teacher...

Girl... I am so proud of how hard you have worked this first quarter... ESPECIALLY with things like math that tried to knock ya down but you just stood up and tackled it!

Great presentation, great work and great letter Meron...

We love you girl!!

Rock of Kindness

We all know how much I love the "paint the rock and hide it trend" - so I was super pumped when we were walking into Target yesterday and Z-Dogg exclaimed:

"A rock!"
and proceeded to hold up a painted rock that was bigger than his head!

And it was a dope looking creative rock too - with an excellent message!

All it said was:

KINDNESS

And Zechie LOVES it!

I asked him tonight: "Where ya gonna hide it, Z-Dogg?"

And he smiled and said: "I just wanna keep it daddy... it's so nice!

And so it stays!

Welcome to the family, Rock of Kindness!

Bump, Set, Spike!

Meron wrapped up her volleyball season Friday night...

And she HATED to see it end!

She has really found a love for this sport and I love watching her at it!

She's a fierce little server too!

Drilling that thing every time!

She's learned a lot this season... things like the referees (and their bad/missed calls) are part of the game!

No challenging here, Meron!

She loved her team and had a really good coach who made it fun while they learned the sport too!

Way to give it your all this season Meron - and have fun doing it!

Mommy and daddy are super proud of ya!

Great season, Meron - can't wait til the next one!

Running, Sisters and Smiles

Somebody had her very first cross country invitational this morning... and she was PUMPED!

We rolled out of bed at dark thirty - packed up and headed out about an hour to the race.

The weather cooperated and was AWESOME!

No wind, no snow, no freezing temps... just sunshine and a beautiful course to run on!

One of the things I always insist on out there is that we're smiling!

If we're not happy and enjoying it - why would we be doing it?

Mebbie flashed me her signature smile every time she passed me and I even overheard a parent point at her and say to her friend:

"Look at that girl - smiling while she's running!"
That's a win for us - she's taking that bright light of hers all over the place!

There will be plenty of time to worry about pacing, techniques, strategy and times... but for now... we smile and we run for the fun of it!

One of Mebbie's biggest cheerleaders even rolled out with us before dawn and ran all over the course like a mad woman cheering her little sister on at every spot she could!

I couldn't be any more proud of either of these two today!

Way to show the world what awesome looks like, girls!
