My Big Girl

Stoic, contemplative, angst-filled pre-teen?

Nope! Not at all...

She just didn't realize I was taking her picture!

When she did though... BEAUTY!

Good grief... I love this girl!

She's my big girl... but ALWAYS my baby!

I'm Happy to Help, Daddy!

I came down the steps to this scene tonight...

Mebbie was neck deep in helping Z-Dogg with his daily reading.

We have some daily requirements for his tutoring right now and here she was - picking up the ball and running with it!

She looked at me and said:

"I know you have a lot going on and I told mommy I would help - so we are echo reading now! I am happy to help, Daddy!"

This girl is amazing every day to me...

Lean into her, Z-Dogg... she's one heck of a sister!

Me and the Goofball Squad

Mommy literally JUST touched down in Ethiopia - and this crew and I are a full day in to our 9 days together!

And while our schedule might look just a LITTLE BIT NUTTY...

We're ready for it!

At worst - we'll just laugh our way through it all!

And laugh some more (to stop the tears!)...

Godspeed mommy - we're praying for you and can't wait to hear how your week was!

Hang with me, homies... we'll survive!

Yes... They're "Real"

I love the relationship that this brother and sister have...

And YES... they are REAL brother and sister.

It's a super stupid question - but one we get from time to time...

"Are they REAL brother and sister?"

And it's usually followed up with the nudge, nudge, wink, wink:

"You know what I mean!"

Yeah... I do know. I'm just not gonna acknowledge it.

I dunno what people's obsession with blood-relation is... but it's super odd and comes up so often that there is clearly a common feeling held by many around it.

Not in this house though.

These guys are as brother and sister as it gets... and I absolutely adore their relationship and influence on each other!

Way to be awesome siblings to each other, homies!

Stranger Things

The hat says it all...

"Stranger Things" is right, Zechie!

Stay STRANGE, Z-Dogg!

National Daughter's Day

Supposedly it's National Daughters Day or something crazy like that.

And just in case that's a real thing - I figured I'd go ahead and celebrate my two amazing, awesome, incredible, unbelievable daughters!

Meron keeps me cracking up all day every day.

She's a fiercely loyal human being - and if you make it into her circle - she's got your back HARD!

She lives life to the complete fullest - every single day and she brings so much joy and smiles to those around her!

And then there's this little piece of amazing handiwork from God!

Mebbie loves people like nobody I have ever met.

She has empathy and compassion at levels that can seem unreal.

She's competitive, loyal, focused and fierce.

And her smile is contagious and beams down directly from Heaven.

These are my two daughters... and they are complete gifts to me.

Happy National Daughters Day, girls!

It's Almost Not Fair...

Man... it really almost isn't fair... the beauty we get to see out here when God decides to paint the sky!

I was driving home from the gym and saw a thin red line on the horizon and just knew what was coming.

And it's funny - ya don't have much time with it - i whipped in the driveway and ran inside yelling "Go look out back!"

Then I grabbed the camera and tried to capture it... one day... when I have more TIME... I'll become a better photographer.

One of the ONLY things that could make that shot any more beautiful... is this cutie!

Absolutely love the views He gives us...

He makes beautiful things...

Run, Mebbie... RUN!

For years I have let the goofball crew be coached by other coaches... by design.

I really want them to be coach-able and to take direction from other adults as they learn and grow.

But this year - Landshark's Cross Country was in need of some coaches... and while I literally don't know much about anything - I do know how to run and have run for a long time... so I volunteered to coach.

Mebbie was STOKED!

This girl makes me so proud... and feel me - there's nothing I can teach her she doesn't know - she's a natural runner!

Her smile that she never lets leave her face while she is out there navigating the course... at times I think she keeps it there just for me!

"Smile while you run!" has been our thing for years.

Her smile... her running... I pray it brings her the joy it brings to me!

Tonight - at the first race - she turned in a conservative 7:10 mile. She was holding back a little to practice her kick at the end.

And kick she did.

First girl to finish... but she didn't care too much about that... cuz she got to run... and smile.

And that's what matters to her.

Run, Mebbie... it suits you well!

Bring On The Postseason!

The Yankees clinched the AL East for the first time since 2012...

And we're loving it!

These are my people!

They may not know the ins and outs of the game - but they certainly know who to root for!

The sign says it all!

Fall Ball is the best ball!

Momma's Boy

We were setting up camp to watch Mebbie's soccer game when I saw this and had to quickly snag a picture of it.

Z-Dogg is 100% Momma's Boy and ya know what...?

He's proud of it!

And he should be!

He loves his mommy fiercely... and she loves him back the same way!

He heard me and busted me in the act... but I got what I wanted!

You love your mommy well, Z-Dogg!

I Mustache You a Question...

I am not sure why - but the pizza we got to toss in the oven tonight had a punch out mustache on the box...

And you know who was all over that thing immediately!

Z-Dogg, that's who!

He had that thing out and up his nose before ya could blink!

And he rocked it well and with attitude!

Good look, Zechie!

Proof Positive

These pre-teen years are getting a little... well... pre-teeny.

So I'm posting this here from today to remind us all how much these two love each other!

It's a LOT!

Dear God... help us survive!

Reading Warrior

I am so proud of this guy right here!

We started this school year out under a VERY SERIOUS challenge when it came to reading.

He hated it and was not doing well with it at ALL.

Between tutoring multiple times a week, teachers who care a LOT about him and Mommy reading with him every single night...

This dude has become a reading WARRIOR!

Thank God his goofiness was never at risk!

We got high compliments from the school on him tonight and I couldn't be any more proud to hear his answer when asked what his favorite thing about school is these days:

"Reading" he said!

Way to get great at what ya used to hate, Z-Dogg!

Smirking Tough Guy Goofballs

This picture just makes me smile.

Mebbie and Z-Dogg are holding down the "tough guy b-boy poses" as hard as can be... and then there's Meron!

She can't keep it together - not even for a simple click of the shutter button.

Stay tough (and silly), goofballs!

Homies for life!

Oooops - How'd That Happen?

Okay... we DO love coffee - but I promise you this was an accident!

I decided to stray from my regular drink - and because our awesome baristas are awesome - they had my regular drink made before I even walked in the door!

Couple it with some water and Laura's drink...

And we look like we have a FOR REAL drinking problem!

And on top of that - they leave us feeling awesome about ourselves... needed and valued!

What's your coffee look like today?

When I Grow Up...

Tonight - the Z-Dogg and I hit the fields to toss the football around!

And let's just say - somebody was SUPER STOKED!

We hardly ever get any time to just go be the boys - and tonight we just stole the time!

And my man was loving it - we learned some routes to run - and he was awesome!

Plus - his arm is CRAZY for a little dude with string bean arms!

He was SLINGING it!

When darkness forced us to pack up and head out - he climbed in the car and said:

"Daddy... thank you! That was so fun! I could do that every day..."

And as we drove off he declared:

"When I grow up... I wanna be a football player!"

Chase your dreams, homie!

Holding 'Em Tight

Dude was chilling after a swim the last day of the swim season...

But he REFUSED to let go of his stack of Pokemon cards!

You gotta know when to hold 'em...

One of My Biggest Fans

This girl here has no idea how her loves fuels me... she is easily one of my biggest fans on the planet!

And the coolest part is - it's not something that she sets out to do - it's just who she is and how she loves!

She calls me often - in the morning before anybody else is up and I'm at the gym - just to check on me and say "Hi, daddy!"

Her love is not lost on me.

Quite the contrary... it's cherished by me.

It makes me want to be better at just about everything - but mostly at loving others.

Thank you, Meron... for loving me the way you do!

Super Dooper Sister Skills

Z-Dogg absolutely adores his big sis Mebbie...

And why wouldn't he?

The girl has some seriously Super Dooper Sister Skills and she doesn't shy away from using them!

Oh - hear me - he knows how to drive her nuts and does it sometimes - but typically - these two are playing together, laughing together, goofing around and being the best of friends.

I see you Mebbie... and so does Zechie!

We all do!

Mebski Love doing "big sister" right!

Rising Above

Middle School... what happened to reading, writing and arithmetic?

It all seems to have been replaced by gossip, lies, mean girls, betrayal, friends as currency and hurting others for sport!

Today was a particularly challenging day for my little Daddy's Girl... and I knew she was hurting - even if her tough girl persona didn't show it.

And I hate seeing my little girl hurt by others.

Especially because she is a GOOD GOOD human...

The girl manages to take the high road so often... and honestly - I learn a ton from her.

One post-volleyball mid parking lot hug and some flowers to cheer her up and remind her Who she belongs to and where her identity is...

And she was back to her smiling self.

Middle school is vicious - make it shine brighter, Meron!
