Bye Bye 2014!

Last night we waved "goodbye" to 2014 while watching fireworks and flares be shot off from the top of Pike's Peak! It was super cool and a super fitting ending to what has been one heck of an adventurous year for our Camp.

Tonight we sat down and thought through some of the things this year brought us:

  • WE MOVED ACROSS COUNTRY!
We said "Okay God - we'll follow ya.." and packed up all we had, said goodbye to all we knew and followed God across the country.

  • I GOT A NEW GIG
God's funny sometimes. I don't think He likes us to be comfortable. So while He led me to a job doing something my heart fully believes in every single day - He also put me in a role that stretches me, challenges me and forces me to lean on Him. I am thankful for that.

  • GIRLS STARTED NEW SCHOOL
And they did it with courage, strength, confidence and hearts that desire to focus on HIM. I couldn't be more proud of these two.

  • Z-DOGG TRANSITIONED TO DAYS AT HOME WITH MOMMY
    I don't think he's arguing!

  • WE FOUND A NEW CHURCH
I hate church-searching. I mean I HATE it. Least favorite thing to do ever. And so - it was with great pleasure (and a little surprise) that after visiting about 5 churches we found one that felt like home. The kids love it. We've met a ton of people there. And it's a Northpoint plant - so there's that little piece that kinda feels like home!

  • SOLD OUR FIRST HOME AND BOUGHT A NEW ONE!
Leaving our house in Atlanta was hard. Like - super duper, tears, prayers, etc. kind of hard. And we always thought we were going to have a vacation home in Austell, GA forever - because - well - we just did.

But then - like only God can do - He sold that house super fast - and led us right to the new spot for Camp Hoffman.

  • GRANNY VISITS
Lot's of 'em. And each one was awesome!

  • WON THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN STATE GAMES FLAG FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
I couldn't get anybody to come out and go snowboarding with me - but one mention of a flag football tournament put 13 guys from ATL on a plane to head out here to play.

Oh.... and we won the whole tournament too!

  • LAURA'S 3,500 MILE ODYSSEY
While that above flag tournament was happening - Laura decided to pack up three kids in the van by herself and drive over 3,500 miles in 8 days to visit some family.

    And she survived!

  • BRIGHTON THEIR WORLD
Brighton Their World was something we were worried about - we had such a great, supportive network in Atlanta. Well - the cool thing is this - that incredible network never stopped supporting us just because we moved.

AND... Laura has been a nonstop motormouth about our first son (in a GREAT way) - making friends by the handful, making connections and just basically shouting about Brighton and how God worked through him... So we feel like our support has just doubled and the opportunity to share about Brighton and God in him has just increased so much.

We also sent our second BTW Mission/Vision team to Ethiopia as well as had a 5k race officially change it's name to the Brighton Their World 5k

Nope - no slow down in BTW - only growth!

  • NEW FRIENDS
God has just been crazy in this area. He has given us this insane ability to attract friends and talk to them about just about anything.

We've met adoption friends we only knew digitally, spent time with some older online friends and gotten to know a lot of new friends.

What we fear - God has covered. And this is one of those areas where He went all out!

  • MY KIDS GOT CALLED "CHRISTIAN BULLIES"
So... I went and wrote this little series of notes with some graphics called "Dear Church" - where I personified the truths of the bible and TRUTH wrote letters to the church.

Well - go figure - it made some people uncomfortable - yanked them out of their safe little world they had created - and basically - made 'em mad at me!

I lost a good chunk of "friends" over it - but the line was crossed by one in particular when she called my kids "Christian bullies."

As we usually would do - we talked about it as a family - and decided we were all good with being disliked as long as we were standing firm on HIS TRUTH and doing all we could to honor and glorify Him in the process.

  • I GOT HIGH - LIKE 14,000+ FEET HIGH
I managed to talk a friend from work into taking me up one of Colorado's 14'ers. Actually - the fifth highest one in the state. It was pretty amazing...

  • FIRST FULL FAMILY FLIGHT
We flew back to Atlanta as a family for a long weekend visit. It was a bit crazy loading a red-eye at midnight with the kids - but they OWNED IT like the bosses they are!

  • CHRISTMAS WITH FAMILY
All of our cousins kinda shocked us and said "We're coming out there for Christmas!" - and they did!

We had a ton of fun wrapping up 2014 with them all!

So that was it 2014.

A whole lot of other stuff went down - but if we shared it all we'd never stop typing!

Here's to 2015 - and another year filled with adventure that we could never predict!

I really love the dear church series. I actually printed it out and put it on a co-workers desk who says she is a "devout Christian" but lies, cheats and does a lot of wrong things to get ahead. In her mind God is ok with what she does because she is successful, she sees that as God showering her with blessings for her big tithe.
Seriously she makes God, religion, and the church seem like one big pyramid scheme.
Gods love shouldn't be measured by the size of your bank balance.
