Going... Going... Gone!

Tonight we had a little family night at the pool - we closed it down and had pizza brought in for dinner - the goofballs loved it!

Only problem?

It was kinda chilly...

Meron was like a rogue hippo in the wild - only keeping her eyes and nose above water most of the time in an attempt to stay warm...

She kept getting lower and lower and lower...

All the while begging me to get in - which I respectfully declined because... COLD AND WINDY!

Next time Meron... NEXT TIME!

Chlorophyll? More like BOREophyll...

Any time I think of heading back to school - I can't help but think of Billy Madison (of course) - hence the title of this blog...

Today these two cuties had their orientation for second and third grade... WHAT, WHAT, WHAT?!?!

This doesn't even seem possible...

And yet - there we were...

Finding new seats, seeing who was in our class, dropping off supplies...

It's Really Real People!

And the first day of school on Wednesday will just confirm it!

Meanwhile - 9,000 miles away...

These guys in a Brighton Academy summer session were getting their learn on too!

That's right kids - from all over the world...

School's back in session!

Run, Jump, Skip, Climb...

Mebski Love is our little resident athlete!

If it can be run, climbed on, jumped over - this girl is doing it!

And she's always doing it with tons of style and a gorgeous smile!

Stay happy AND fit Mebbie!

I'll Be Weally Weally Mad...

The other day - as most days go 'round this circus - Laura found herself handing out some discipline.

This time it was over a set of walkie-talkies and sibling rivalries - and her chosen punishment was "I am about to give these away to the neighbor..." and she took them and put 'em outta bounds.

A little while later - Z-Dogg showed up with two notes he had "written" for her...

Laura was so moved... she was about to experience a precious little moment with her bubba - maybe even a "written" apology!

He held the first one out and she asked him what it said...

"It says 'Please don't give away the walkie talkies..."
Laura smiled, thinking - "Here it comes..."

She asked him what the other one said...

He held out the other one said:
"If you do... I'll be weally, weally mad..."
Mic drop.

Dude wasn't sorry...

He had just delivered a written warning of his impending anger...

Give back the walkie-talkies... OR ELSE!

Thing is... dude LOVES his mommy.

And he gives some level 10 neck hugs too.

My guess is - a few hugs later and those walkie-talkies are back in action.

Well played, Z-Dogg... WELL PLAYED!

FLASHBACK: Daddy's Girl

Life changing moment right there.

Etched into my memory forever... i literally could feel my heart start healing!

I may not always be able to hoist her up and stare in her eyes...

But she'll always be my little "daddy's girl."

The girl had me cracking up and both of us could barely hold a straight face!

Thank you, God... for this goofball who keeps me smiling!

These two KONJO ("beautiful") girls put on an impromptu fashion show yoday that ended with Ethiopian dress and them asking for us to find some Ethiopian tunes on Pandora so they could dance to it...

I love that their hearts stay connected to the land we all love in this house!

And let's be honest here...

I mean they represent Ethiopia and Beauty in an unmatched way for sure!

And this little dude is holding his own as well!

I am thankful for the country that has stolen our hearts and has been woven into our very being with the story God is writing through each one of these little amazing lives above...

As well as this little guys incredibly long-lasting 76 days!

Ethiopia... we love you!

("very beautiful")

Under Attack!

Tonight... after Z-Dogg went to bed... the action continued with a pretty intense couple games of UNO ATTACK!

There was plotting...

There was scheming and acting innocent...

There was this hand of darn near ALL yellows...

There were cards being flung at us left and right...

But mostly...

There were smiles!

And great sports and lots of fun!

Girls - I'm down for an attack with you guys any time!

I Still Believe In Miracles

A year ago today I loaded this hottie up in the car early in the morning and headed to the hospital.

She was about to have a pretty invasive surgery to remove a portion of her colon because of some kind of crazy cancerous thingie-majiggie hanging around at the entrance to her appendix.

You simply wouldn't believe the number of folks around the globe praying for her and the doctor.

That day feels like it was both yesterday and a century ago.

Check it out here if you're interested...

As logical, reasoning humans - we're so quick to explain away the power of prayer and the work of our insanely awesome God.

I know I used to... but I don't any more.

Today... I am thankful for a God who hears our prayers and I am praising Him for another year of life that none of us deserved but He gave us anyways.

I believe in miracles...

Refillable Prescription

8 years ago - God prescribed this little girl to help heal some seriously broken hearts.

And every time I've peered into that prescription bottle since then - He keeps on refilling it.

Her laugh...

Her smile...

Her gorgeous heart...

Her love for her people...

It has all come together to give me a renewed spirit over the last 8 years.

I love you, Meron...

And I'm a better person for the way you've loved me!

Home Sweet Furry Home

I know a trio of goofballs who couldn't WAIT to get their seat belts unbuckled and DASH straight into the house to love on this girl...

and this other furry girl here too!

Road trip sare a blast and vacations are so much fun...

But there's nothing quite like BEING HOME!

While the crew ran straight to the pool - I washed all the sheets and got their CRAZY COMFY beds all ready to go...

And they came home from swimming EXHAUSTED!

Once they had their girls with them... it was tough to keep their eyes open!

The last 12 days had caught up with them and they were SPENT!

Vacation was a total blast... but:

Leaving Granny's

We LOVE visiting Granny's house!

But leaving always has us feeling a little bit like this:

Granny - we had an absolute blast! Thanks so much for loving on us like ya always do!

We can't wait to see ya in a couple months back in our neck of the woods - and do us one big favor...

Leave The Humidity THERE!

Take a look at this group of ladies... and SMILE!

That's What I Do!

This group of ladies holding down the fort at a church in North Carolina have been supporting Brighton Their World for about as long as I can remember!

So when we got the opportunity to come share with them about the school and the work they've helped support - and honestly just to hug some necks with lots of gratitude...

And watching Laura share the stuff that is the very thing her heart beats for... well - that's never not awesome!

Big huge thanks to the Ladies Impact Class at First Christian Church of High Point - you ladies have blessed us and countless others in more ways than you'll ever fully know!

12 Hour Beach Bums

Check out this crew here - we love 'em like family!

Strike that... they ARE family to us!

They're in the middle of a home renovation and what do they say?

"Hey - come spend the night with us and let's all go to the beach!"

I love their selfless approach to life... so we came and crashed their world for 24 hours!

Thanks Katie for snagging this ONLY photo of us all (minus you behind the phone!)...

After hanging with them for dinner last night - we got up early and headed to the beach!

Had to get a "Shark's Eye View" of it all...

This girl right here was STOKED!

She's an ocean girl at heart who is living in the mountains... I kid you not - when we walked up on the beach she was weeping!

And check this out - Laura had posted some picture of us to social media - and come to find out a friend who had checked on Mebbie for us when she was in Ethiopia since her son was in the same transition home was vacationing at the same beach!

She recognized the area we were in and came and found us!

So cool to have an unexpected and impromptu visit!

It's times like this when social media shines and ya get to see the good side of it all!

After a stroll along the pier - the water rescue truck rolled up and let us know that lifeguards had left the beach and lightning had been sighted in the area...

It felt like time to leave - but we're already missing that salty breeze blowing off the ocean!

We gathered up three tired, salty but happy goofballs and called it a day... and about 12 hours after our morning journey started - we were pulling back in to Granny's house!

Thanks Seevers for entertaining us for 24 hours - count on this beach and Seevers crew - WE'LL BE BACK!

Bonnie and Roxie

Mommy's lifelong friend Bonnie invited us over today to give the goofballs some stuff for the ride back home...

Being the dog lovers we are - the kids were all over it!

Roxie - on the other hand - wasn't feeling it too much at first...

But with a little (or a LOT) of coaxing and loving...

They got Roxie out and Roxie was loving it!

Thanks so much Bonnie for loving on our crew like that!
