For The Love of Pete...

You stop growing up Mebrate Hoffman... RIGHT NOW!

This girl right here is an absolute joy - she exudes the love of Christ in just about everything she does.

Mebbie - it's an honor and a privilege to be called your daddy...

Unused Elf

Scrolling through a way too crowded SD card tonight to find a pic for the blog and I came across a couple unused elf pictures!

That'll always make ya smile!

I miss the little goofball 'round these parts!

Only about 10 more months till he's back!

We can't wait!

Afro Reboot

So... after much wringing of the hands and gnashing of the teeth...

We finally decided to do the unthinkable...

We cut Z-Dogg's hair!

I wept.

Zechie had been asking for me to "Shave it daddy... just shave it!" for a while now.

And truth be told - we had not done the best job of serving him right and he had developed some tough matted spots...

So out came the clippers!

And about an hour and a million pictures later...

We were looking at our new little shrunken head homie!

He was pretty shocked when he saw it...

But we're all in agreement - we're growing it back with a much better approach to beautifying and keeping natural hair healthy!

Stay tuned... because...

Afro II is on the way!

They Were Beside Each Other

I know we blogged about Meron sleeping yesterday - but let's be honest - it's just TOO MUCH FUN - so here we are again!

I mean... look how stinking cute her and her home girl Cider are!

Even when we yanked the blanket away - she was steady snoozing!

And then there was her sock situation!

These are the ones she rocked for her basketball game today...

When we could finally get her awake enough to ask her why she wore those two socks, she said...

"Because they were beside each other..."

And there ya have it ladies and gentlemen... SLEEPY MERON!

And we love every second of it!

WARNING: Don't Fall Asleep!

Okay - here's a fair warning.

If ya fall asleep at Camp Hoffman...

First - we may try to gently wake ya up and and jokingly tell you you're at Chick Fil A and ask what ya want to eat!

But if that doesn't work...

We'll probably draw on your face with a blacklight magic marker!

And we'll have way too much fun doing it!

Meron - you sleep like a champion!

It was all in fun, big girl!

Dads... Date Your Daughters!

"Meron - do you have anything on your calendar for next Thursday?"

She looked at me confused... "What do you mean Daddy?"

"I mean... are you doing anything next Thursday right after school? And what about you too Debbie? You free?"

They ran through the week's events out loud and let me know they were indeed free.

"Would you girls wanna go on a date with me?" I asked them...

These kind of things matter.

So much so - that Meron ran down and found her calendar on her desk - marked the date and started crossing out every day as we marched towards it!

When I got home today - they had already put on dresses and were ready to go!

I threw on a button down shirt and my finest hoodie - and we were out!

Look at my dinner dates!

Cutest girls on the planet...

Of course it was Whole 30 non-compliant as we headed to Mexican - their favorite!

We had the best time - chatting about school, people watching, laughing and just being goofy!

And we had the best waitress - who knew we were on a Daddy-Daughter date and was so awesome to us all - she even walked the girls to the bathroom and went and checked on them and brought them back for me!

And then - of course we had to wrap it up with some ice cream!

All the excitement and fun hit us hard and we were wiped out!

We came home early and watched some TV together before bed time.

Man... there were a million other things I could have done tonight... but this one?

This one mattered so much and I wouldn't have traded that time for ANYTHING else!

Thanks girls... one day you'll realize just how much Daddy loved this - you thought it was for you... but it was HUGE for me too!

Dads... Date Your Daughters!

Jammie Jammers

Bedtime routine here is ANYTHING but routine...

It's usually when we get the craziest!

And I'm always trying to wrangle 'em and get 'em on point...

But shhhhh!

Don't tell 'em but...

I actually love the shenanigans!

My Light

This girl right here... I love her so much!

In Amharic - her name means "My Light"

And is she ever!

She shines like nobody I have ever seen - a smile always there, always ready to lift somebody up or brighten a day...

It's just who she is...

Forever our light, Mebski Love!

If She Had Just Had White Skin...

Meron has jumped head first into her research on Phillis Wheatly - the historical figure she'll be representing at her school's "Museum Night" here soon...

And the whole family is being blessed by it!

As Meron reads and learns more she continues to share more and more about this amazing lady!

Tonight - she learned a bit about how Phillis Wheatley was sold into slavery when she was only 7 years old.

That's a year younger than Mebbie!

Meron turned to Laura and said:

"So if she had the same name, was the same age and just had white skin this would never have happened to her... Her life was so hard."
Impossibly tough stuff for our girl to be learning - but she's digesting it well and understanding why it is we stand up and fight for injustices - no matter what!

I love how interested she has been in this and how she has really taken it upon herself to learn as much as she can... and school us all in the process! She's gonna do fabulous at Museum Night!

Never lose that passion for fighting for what is right, Meron!

My Worn Out Sidekick

"Daddy - I don't think they like them as much as we do..."

Meron whispered this to me as she and I settled in to watch the Steelers-Patriots game and her brother and sister scampered off downstairs to play.

It was a ROUGH way to end the season too... BOO!

I had offered Meron an authentic jersey if they made the Super Bowl - so she was highly invested in this one!

With about 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter - the stress of it all had beat her...

She was DONE!

I feel ya Meron... it left Daddy feeling the same way!

We'll get jerseys before next season, girl...

And at least we have a legitimate back up team this year...

Let's go Falcons!

Brotherly Love...

He looks innocent, doesn't he?

Perfectly harmless and always sweet... right?

Today he sweetly punched his oldest sister in the stomach.

The irony of it all is that he wants to BE his biggest sister so bad... and way too often he resorts to the whole "if I can't be her - then I'll beat her..." mentality...

After emerging from a LENGTHY timeout... he came armed with a "letter" for his sister.

I had to have him read it to me - since I struggle a bit with reading his writing... :)

He read it to me and it said:

"Meron - I am sorry. I hope you will forgive me. I didn't mean to hurt you. You are a really good sister and I love you so much.

Love, Zechie"
He was totally sincere about it too...

He gave the letter to his sister - and she graciosuly accepted his apology and forgave him.

Alls well that ends well!

They really do love each other... but hunkering down to likely do it again tomorrow!

Lose the punches Zechie - but keep the love!

That's How She Rolls...

"Daddy - did you block your calendar to come to the awards show Friday?"

She had been asking me almost every day for like 2 weeks!

And thankfully - I work for an organization that holds stuff like this in high regard - so OF COURSE I had blocked off my calendar!

So this morning we rolled over to school to watch our girl get recognized for...

Gold Honor Roll!

That's just how she rolls!

Straight A's with some extra credit work pushing her over 100% and into the A+ stage in a couple classes!

A few of the things her teacher said about her were:

"Meron has been working very hard to stay focused and to resist distractions around her."

"She is always one of the first to volunteer to help in class!"

"Meron takes positive ownership of her academic success and continually seeks to improve her learning."
Holy guacamole, girl!

I love seeing her little face beam with pride when she walks out and spots us in the crowd.

I pray I am always able to be there to cheer her on and support her in every little and big thing she does!

WAY TO GO MERON! Mommy and daddy are so proud of you!

National Popcorn Day

Wait - what?

National Popcorn Day?

What is this tomfoolery? Isn't National Popcorn Day every Friday night in our house? And a few days in between?

I mean... you're looking at three professional popcorn eaters up there - how on earth did we not know about this day?

Regardless of all that - there was only one thing to do...

Head to Cole's Gourmet Popcorn shop and get our popcorn on!

There was Mebbie who went for the Oreo Cookie corn... GOOD STUFF!

There was Z-Dogg... who went after the Spicy Buffalo MIXED with Ranch!

And then there was the traditionalist - ole Meronator - who went with the "Buttery Popcorn"

We got to chat with the sweetest Popcorn Shop owner on the planet - talking about how her store is a ministry (it really is!) - and then she spoiled the goofballs with a trip to the "back wall" for even more goodies!

Thanks Cole's Gourmet popcorn for helping us celebrate National Popcorn Day in the best fashion!

Me Too...

Me too, Meron... ME TOO!

I feel ya on the sleepy!

2017 is supposed to be the year I get the sleep patterns under control...

Not there just yet.

Watch out sleep - I'm coming for ya!

Goofball in a Hoodie

Mebbie was dead serious about wanting a set of big girl onesie pajamas for Chrsitmas.

I wasn't aware of HOW serious she was until she got 'em - complete with a hoodie with ears - and now she never takes 'em off!

She even rocked it at dinner the other night!

I love it...

Stay young Mebbie... STAY YOUNG!
