Wrap Party!

Today was DAY 30 in our family "kick off the year right" round of family whole 30!

Hooty Hoo!!

And Laura decided to let these guys celebrate about 9 hours early with a little ice cream treat at Rita's with a friend after school!

Let's just say there were a few happy Campers at that place!

These guys killed it this month and while we never go nutty crazy with the bad food 'round here - we're all looking forward to a little less strict diet for a bit while we incorporate all we always learn about food and our bodies from this recent round of clean eating!

Way to stay dedicated and finish it out, ya Goofballs!

Oh trust me... Meron ain't "stuck!"

She is RIGHT where she wants to be!

And I suppose I can't blame her too much...

Cuz these Golden Girls...

I love seeing this girl in her happy place!

Hey meron - come quick - they got cuter!

High Pony Head

What happens when you have copious amounts of gorgeous hair, pulled up in a high pony and ya slide your "princess cap" on for a good nights sleep?

Ya end up with a HIGH CONEHEAD - that's what!

Good grief I love this girl and her humor...

She hunted me down tonight just to show me this... gigantic smile on her face and laughing like crazy!

Stay you forever, Meron - the world needs ya!

Making 45 Look 22

This girl celebrated her 45th trip around the sun today... and did it looking GOOD!

She recently did a thing at the YMCA that gives you a look at what your "biological age" is and she got 22!

And I believe it!

She works out hard and earned that! I was only slightly ticked because I got a 25.

Boo... I can't keep up!

And what do ya do when you're on DAY 27 of whole 30 and it's your birthday?

Ya whip up a paleo (almost whole30) key lime "pie" for the celebration - and defer the real celebration to the weekend!

Me thinks she liked it!

Our house wouldn't be the same without her and we're ALL grateful for another year of life!

Happy 22nd Birthday, Laura!

Tripods

I truly never know what I'll find going on around these parts any more...

Walked in tonight to these two goofballs practicing their "tripods" in the living room!

And while Z-Dogg's little toes kept touching ground... Mebbie was crazy steady at holding herself up!

Stay weird, goofballs... STAY WEIRD!

Putting In WORK!

I absolutely LOVE when I stumble up on Meron in the middle of evening hair prep!

And she is ALWAYS a good sport about it when I bust the camera out...

And let's just admit it - the girl and her hair are AMAZING!

And I'll never not be impressed with how much hard work she puts in to keep her beautiful hair looking healthy and awesome like sh edoes!

Another night - another head of hair prepped to be slept on!

Way to go, Meron!

Daddy loves every hair on your head, girl!

Best Buds!

Z-Dogg got to have a buddy swim date with one of his best buds today...

These guys are a hoot together!

And at one point they had the pool almost to themselves!

On the way out Z-Dogg said to Laura:

"Will is my BEST friend!"

Buddy bonds are the best!

Party On!

It's past midnight and I just picked this girl up from a party.

She's growing up and it's happening fast!

And I don't like it!

But guess what Meron...???

You'll always and forever be my baby girl!

Unlearning and Learning to Relearn

I am so proud of these two right here!

For a while now... Z-Dogg has been really struggling to progress in reading.

And after a whole bunch of testing from a whole bunch of specialists and doctors who care a whole bunch about him... we got us some answers...

Z-Dogg is Dyslexic.

And while that may have seemed daunting and scary and intimidating at first... Laura has jumped straight into learning all she can about it in order to help our little man suceed!

And some of that means unlearning the way he was being taught and relearning a new way to help him learn.

With the help of some new methodology and curriculum stuff - we're ALREADY seeing improvements!

And Zechie is loving it!

Stick with it Z-Dogg... you're gonna do big things in life and tackling this issue is just the beginning!

Read on, Zechie... READ ON!

Three Little Warriors

These guys right here... they ain't to be trifled with.

This week - the world tried though.

Peers coming at them sideways - at each one of them - for their beliefs.

But this camp don't be playing!

Each one of them managed it so maturely, so perfectly... honestly better than most of the adults that are placed around them would know how to...

And they managed to preserve dignity and friendships too!

I couldn't be any more proud of them for how they choose to walk out their beliefs!

Never stand down, Camp Hoffman... NEVER STAND DOWN!

They were giving out some free shirts today at work so I snagged a few for the whole fam...

Because these shirts shout out loud the way we wish, pray and hope to be living.

Act Justly... Love Mercy.

Represent, Z.... REPRESENT!!

Even Her Breakfast Smiles

Mebbie just wakes up in the morning with a smile on her face and creativity in her soul!

This was the breakfast she made herself this morning!

I swear... the girl's smile is so infectious... even her breakfast smiles!

Never lose your joy Mebbie... the world needs it!

Zechie and His Head

This dude here... he never misses an opportunity to be the SILLIEST HUMAN ALIVE!

And if that means jamming a stuffed poop emoticon in your shirt to look like your own head... so be it!

We didn't really replace his head with that - he's still the same goofy Z-Dogg!

Stay... POOPY... Z-Dogg... stay poopy!!!

Daddy... Look! They've Gotten Cuter!

Every day... EVERY SINGLE DAY... she says the same thing:

"Daddy! Come look! They've gotten cuter!"

And every day... I roll my eyes...

Except tonight though...

She may have been right!

Okay Meron... you win... today they ARE cuter!

Chief Weirdo

No... his head didn't spin completely around...

Even though sometimes I feel like it could!

Nope - this goofball was just rocking his shirt backwards!

He is ABSOLUTELY the chief weirdo of ll weirdos that exist... and I love it!

Stay oddly weird, Z-Dogg... it fits ya well!

I'm Not Just... "The Black Girl" - I have a name...

"I'm not just 'The Black Girl' - I have a name."

That was Mebbie's response when a student referred to those around her by their given names but called her "the black girl."

She told Laura:

"I don’t want to just be known as ‘the black girl’. I’m Mebbie. And I told him that referring to me as that is racist."
Amen, Mebski Love... AMEN!

Say it again, Mebbie... louder... for the people in the back!

Mebbie was hurt, upset and ready to rumble!

Kidding... anybody who knows Mebbie knows she is bold... courageous... and willing to stand for what is right... but she'd never fight you over it!

She will... however... drop some truth and education on your head! And that's exactly what she did...

One restorative conversation later - and Mebbie had helped a truly ignorant peer understand racism, slavery, the hateful history our country embodies and why the thing he said to her was hurtful!

Tonight - this sweet girl was looking like this - and I asked her how things were and she said:
"We're all good now, daddy. We're friends..."
And THAT is the heart behind this precious little girl.

So, so, so proud of how she handled this. She stood for what was right. She engaged adults to help. She willingly had hard conversations that ultimately helped educate her peers.

And she held her head high the whole time.

Daddy is SUPER proud of you Mebbie - never stop standing for what is right!

He Misses His Dad

I got the email this morning some time around 10:30. It was from Zechie's teacher and it said:

Zechie seems to be sad today. I asked him if he was feeling okay and he said he is sad. He said that he misses his dad. I told him I would send this email so that you all knew he was feeling sad.

If you have a moment to speak with Zechie send me a number that would be good to reach you today and I will have him call and chat if you think that would help.

I immediately emailed back with my phone number and the time I'd be out of the meeting I was in so Z-Dogg could call me.

When the phone rang and I answered it - my little dude sounded so tiny and sad.

Long story short - I had been out of town since last Thursday and when I got home last night - Z-Dogg and Mebbie were already sleeping. I did go in and wake them up and love on 'em - but he didn't remember...

So this morning he asked Laura when he would see me again - and she said "tonight after work" and some how... some way... dude took that to mean he would only ever see me again late at night when I wake him up in his sleep.

He was breaking my heart as he tried to explain it all.

I assured him this was NOT the case and we made plans for me to come have lunch with him at school next week.

He also assured me that he was now smiling and would smile the rest of the day for me... and tonight we got to hang out for a while too.

While it wasn't the truth - it was HIS TRUTH for a little while - and dude was upset.

So glad to see him back to normal crazy self tonight!

Daddy loves you, Z-Dogg! Forever and ever...
